Affordable - French Cuisine…. Oxymoron? I THINK NOT!
Sage Cafe is a quaint, cozy little french cafe on North Federal Highway in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Sage Cafe - Stuffed Bass with Tarragon Cream Sauce
I met a group of friends and acquaintances for dinner at this little eatery, and was just as pleased with the food as I was with the company! It was the Sunday night after the Internet Marketers Spring Break, in which I attended a few coctail/brewsky events… that we headed to the Sage Cafe, courtesy of Brandy from Web Master Radio, for a calm down evening of great food and conversation.

Sage Cafe - Oso Buco
The ambiance inside is intimate, comfy and chic, with dim lighting and colorful original art pieces lining the exposed brick walls, a feature that is few and far between in South Florida.
I ordered the Tomato salad for starters… very basic, sliced tomatoes with thinly sliced onions, basil and pepper… Honestly, the last time I remember tasting a decent tomato was in Italy, but the presentation was done well!
The French Onion Soup was done very well! No complaints!

Sage Cafe - French Onion Soup
The seafood stew was quite large, contrary to the French stereotype… the broth was tomato based, rich in flavor, light, not too heavy or acidic. The stew was filled with white fish, salmon, muscles, scallops and shrimp, all culminating together in the intricately seasoned broth. Divine!
I had ordered a special of the evening, a stuffed sea bass with crab meat, in a light cream tarragon sauce over rice… The dish was very good, and the greens were cooked perfectly, still crispy and lightly seasoned.
My friend Frank Watson, AKA AussieWebmaster had ordered the Oso Buco, which he really enjoyed… he said the dish was both flavored and cooked well, and that they served a nice piece of meat. The portion was also quite large… astonishing for French Food!
The service was friendly, attentive and never made us feel rushed… even by the end of the night, when we were the only table left and the staff wanted to leave.

MMmmmmm, the food looks great! Too bad I don’t live in Florida. :-\
You’re in such a great food city! I was there many years ago and remember eating at the famous Cuban restaurant, is it called Versailles? I don’t remember but they’re super famous. Any suggestions for pork substitutions in the cuban sandwich?
thanks!
Great post.
In reply to your question about Schwartz Shotz, I do recommend them but only if you are short on time. The spicing is a bit basic and you’d be better to make your own.
Versailles is awesome! I will update you when I post about it!
With good food in Miami, how could there be any (ahem) vice.
